Back in the Swing®, the grassroots, national nonprofit organization exclusively dedicated to delivering the most advanced, personalized breast cancer survivorship healthcare wherever a breast cancer survivor works and plays, announces a new Chicago premiere event benefiting Chicagoland breast cancer survivors’ joyful, healthy living: Back in the Swing Retail Therapy Month, October 1-31.
"We are excited to introduce Back in the Swing to the Chicagoland area to answer every breast cancer survivor’s questions: 'Now what? What do I eat? What exercises do I do? What kind of plan do I need to get ME back in the swing of life?'" said Barbara Unell, founder of the Back in the Swing USA organization. "Chicago healthcare providers are already aware of the models of post-treatment care in place in Kansas City and around the country for breast cancer survivors. We are a catalyst to help launch and sustain research-based healthcare programs here that will be accessible to breast cancer survivors throughout Chicagoland."
Special Back in the Swing Retail Therapy Gift Cards are available beginning October 1st at the Information Center in the Grand Court at Yorktown Shopping Center. Simply by purchasing a Back in the Swing Retail Therapy Shopping Gift Card, Back in the Swing receives a charitable donation and the shopper can use the Card at participating stores and restaurants to receive 20% off every purchase! The full 100% of the $2 Gift Card fee is donated to local breast cancer survivorship programs and research through Back in the Swing.
During the month, Yorktown Center will dress up in pink ribbons, banners and window stickers to raise awareness of post-treatment care for breast cancer survivors.
"I am looking forward to building awareness and raising money for this amazing organization in the Chicagoland area," Lindsey Burke, Marketing Director at Yorktown Shopping Center said. "We encourage shoppers to buy gift cards for themselves, or get a jump on holiday shopping by purchasing cards in October to take advantage of giving back while receiving special discounts to participating stores and restaurants for themselves."
Back in the Swing Chicago Working Group on Breast Cancer Survivorship
Back in the Swing is dedicated to bringing together communities to develop groundbreaking personalized, post-treatment clinical and supportive healthcare that addresses the personalized impact of treatment on bones, brain function, the heart, joints, weight gain/loss, nutrition, menopause, lymphedema, sexuality, skin, and more. To improve the health and prevent recurrence of cancer in Chicagoland breast cancer survivor-population, the funds from Back in the Swing Retail Therapy Chicago will support grants to this Back in the Swing network of Chicagoland academic cancer centers, community hospitals and psychosocial service agencies with an aligned mission. We are more than funders of programs; we are integrally involved in sustaining the integrity of mutual respect and shared partnership among cancer survivorship nurses, physicians and physical therapists, and breast cancer patients or former patients who are no longer getting active treatment. 2009 is just the beginning. Back in the Swing’s goal is to make Chicago another leader in breast cancer survivorship programs through our collaborative efforts.
